I read this with my 8 year old and had discussions with her throughout the book. A really great book that I feel would be appropriate for middle school aged children or kids going through a tough time (a parent or close family member whose sick). It shows a boy whose having a hard time controlling his emotions while his Dads going through a Bone Marrow transplant, because he feels alone with no friends, a new school, and no one but his Grandma, until he meets Robin.. definitely worth the read.

This is a very sensitive story about all of the feelings that arise behind the outer happening of a bad day.

In a way this book reminded me of Dear Mr. Henshaw and Strider by Beverly Cleary and also Love That Dog by Sharon Creech. The main character slowly tells you about an event through writing. The story also makes me realize the power of student-teacher writing conferences can be.

Excellent book for 3rd-5th grades. I am using it as a read aloud for my 3rd graders. Could create great discussion about new students, families, illness, and how to handle stress.
