I adored this novella! The tension starts at the very top and doesn't let up until the last page in the best way. Both of the MCs were pure-hearted while also being steeped in the violence of their gifts and environment. They've both made peace with who they are, and are secure in that self-awareness while also being affected by the ways it cuts them off from deep emotional connections.
As always, the writing is clear and evocative. Each novella in the series reveals another part of this fantastical world, and the descriptions here were breathtakingly beautiful.
The connection between the MCs felt so natural and perfect to me. The way they think about their feelings and the traits they admire in each other hit so well, and although the bulk of the novella takes place over about a week I completely believe in their feelings for each other and their HEA.
Highly recommend this novella if you're looking for an action-adventure love story starring two pure-hearted people who won't hesitate to violently defend themselves or each other.
