My daughter and I have returned to the Spiderwick Chronicles, and we're happy to be here.

K doesn't really like Nick, but she loves Laurie, so it balances out. She loved Taloa and the way she sing songs everything she says, I however, really struggled to read those parts out loud, haha.

I like that these books are a little bit longer than the original Spiderwick books, so they feel like they have a bit more story to them.

We read through this one pretty quick, and we like it. It's a fun series, I love the history behind the giants, and I'm excited to learn more. K wants more mermaids.

One of the few instances that proves a spin off series can live up to the standards fortified by the original series. I will also always be a sucker for large emotions being a character within a work. Although I personally don’t consider this commensurate in quality to the original series, it still a really fun jaunt.

Not as good as the original. The bickering between Laurie and Nick gets annoying. The story line is not bad though and I am a sucker so I will probably polish off this series (it is only three books) and see where it goes.

Another read aloud with my 10yo. He is really eager about this series and was excited to start the Beyond books after wrapping up the original Spiderwick books. He liked it, but I felt it lacked some of the depth and intrigue as the first books. New characters with some appearances by old to connect, but the new main protagonists just don't connect like Simon, Jared, and Mallory-at least not yet. We'll be continuing the others in this side series.

Definitely some language that I didn't like--two curse words and lots of rude name calling (which was present in the other books as well, so proceed with your own parental guidelines).

I loved this one. I think it's the best one yet. I'm looking forward to finishing the series.
