I did and didn't like it! Beyond Miller's portrayal of the female characters and his insistence on sexualizing them, in addition to the fact that John Proctor, an adult married father of two, was having an affair with a young teenager! Several things disturb me. However, I gave myself the chance to see beyond all of that, to see the common man as a tragic hero and how he could have chosen to sell his name and remain alive but did not, simply because he had reached that level of enlightenment where he knew he wouldn't be able to face himself and his children after making such a decision. Yes, I would have appreciated this drama if I had chosen to ignore everything that bothered me about it. However, given that it is so well written and has such a touching, tragic ending, I can't give it more than three stars.

I don't know what it is about the witch trials that intrigues me so much but something about this historical period really draws me in. I was hoping for a bit more from this play but I still enjoyed it thoroughly.
