Perfection. I mean, ya gotta love a good character-driven story, because there’s not much here but character, but for me? Perfection. I want to put Count Alexander Rostov in my pocket and keep him with me everywhere I go. Audiobook recommended, although reading the real pages was a delight also.

This was a good book. It was extremely well written and covers an intriguing topic. It was just such a slow read for me! I think I was going through a reading slump but it was such a struggle to get through. Took me forever to finish.

I enjoyed every single second I spent with Count Rostov in the Metropol. I loved the relationships he built and the friends he made. This was such an enjoyable book to read. Highly recommend.

A beautifully written story about a man under house arrest in a luxury hotel in Moscow from the 1920s through the 1950s. I enjoyed the characters and the themes of purpose, memory, home, friendship, and not allowing external circumstances to control your internal life and feelings. (4.5)
