Holy Man's Journey by Susan Trott

The Holy Man lives on a hill and people from every surrounding village, and some from even farther, come to ask his advice on every matter. There are small chapters of about 4 pages that introduce some of the pilgrims that have made their way to the Holy Man's house. The advice and words he dispenses are beautiful and sometimes humorous.

"Oh, Holy One!" he said. "I'm so happy!"
He fell to his knees and kissed the hem of the small man's wheat-colored robe.
"Now, now," said the holy man. "Cut that out. Stand up and tell me about it." (Trott 18)

This unassuming text, just like the unassuming title character, does not spread the word of any particular religious doctrine but rather draws from the teachings of several of today's major religions and leaves one feeling humbled by simple yet profound wisdom. This is a very beautiful little book. It helped to remind me that everybody's challenges and sufferings may look different, yet can be understood--and perhaps even alleviated--through the simple practices of empathy, compassion, honesty, reflection, and education. I recommend this book to everyone.

I did not enjoy this one as much as the first, but still thought provoking.

A good parable-esque book with nuggets of wisdom for the different disfunctional approaches we take towards life.

Very quick little read, not sure it's profound but I suppose it would be called so. I was hooked on page 24. You will certainly see yourself and others in the interwoven stories. A good read whether you are searching for something or not.
