As I am writing this review I have already read the first three books of the series and so I know all the spoilers but my rating stands and I truly believe we needed to know more information by the end of this book and I do not feel like enough was solved, bu I did like the other two books more.

I need to confess tho that I only read this series bc I want to read the box in the woods for the summer but I cannot jump on series (I am trying to fix that bc sometimes it is ok to do it) I hate David and love Nate and that's all I have to say.

And yes it took me 11 days to read this book bc I was so bored at times

I LOVE NATE

david was not as bad as i was anticipating, but he was still a jerk. i don’t hate him though.

and i have no idea what’s gonna happen next whatsoever. no theories, no nothing. i don’t know if that means the mystery was well-plotted or if i’m just stupid (definitely the latter lmao).

An enjoyable page-turner. I'd tried to listen to the audiobook months ago and dropped it after about an hour because I hated the narrator. It wasn't until about 20 pages in the second time around that I realized it was the same book. Reading the hard copy was a lot more fun.

I feel like I need to go run some laps after finishing this what the fuck

I LOVE Stevie!! She’s everything I saw in myself at that age and holds so much bravery and determination and curiosity that I also feel desperate to be her friend?? I’m 24?? I looovvveeeddd how this book narrated being 16 and the tumultuous feelings and explorations that come with that. Stevie is very introspective and I respect the hellnout of her for that. I see her as a realistic but positive role model and an example for how to navigate tricky emotions, tense situations, consent and relationship feelings, self soothing, AND the willingness to ask for and accept help when it’s time to do so.

The cast is LARGE and meeting everyone so rapidly was difficult for me to wrap my head around. Differentiating the characters was a bit of a challenge but because they’re almost always mentioned with context it wasn’t too bad. Fairly accurate new school feelings honestly.

The ATMOSPHERE WAS SO GOOD. I live in a very similar place climate-wise and it’s been POURING rain and stormy and sososososo green which added so much to the experience.

I’m a bit frustrated that neither case was fully completely solved but considering I have immediate access to the next book I’ll live. I got a bit confused about which boy was which and in googling for clarity I FULLY spoiled both David’s secrets and the main murder case. 🙃fuck. It didn’t detract from my experience of the book other than causing a lull in my ferocious drive to finish it. I also felt like the twist was set up well and with more processing time I probably could’ve gotten there myself- which isn’t a criticism in the slightest. I appreciate a well set up mystery and absolutely got Christie vibes just like Stevie did about her own lived experience.

minus points for being not wrapped up in a neat little bow and for not having any moose jkjk
