A charming read, lovely illustrations and fun dialogue ( whimsical and 'hip' but without being too affected). It didn't end the way I wanted it to, which was frustrating in one sense, but admirable in another. Made the story more poignant as well as original.
All in all it was delightful and witty. Perhaps a bit too trendy for it's own good at times. Something I could happily recommend to others and I think it would make an excellent gift too. Great reread potential.

Stories within stories. I enjoyed this so much and actually wish it was longer. Not to mention, the illustrations and colors are beautiful.

In a series of illustrated tales, a young man paddles from his home in the North Pole to the South Pole in search of his missing soul. Along the way, he uses his skills as his village's storyteller to share others' stories.
I really loved the storytelling of this novel. Of course, this is all fictional, but Isabel Greenberg used a lot of stories based on our own cultures and twisted them around. The book didn’t take itself too seriously and it was fun to see what Greenberg kept and what she changed to tell the story of early Earth.
I particularly enjoyed Kiddo and her storyline with Noah as she tried to save him from her father, Bird God.
Overall, a fun graphic novel filled with detailed art and stories that will capture your attention and hold it through every page.

Short stories in a trench coat, pretending to unite into a bigger whole which however doesn’t quite come together… and after what’s supposedly the big conclusion of the over-arching unifying storyline, there’s more short stories coming. Why. I enjoyed the illustrations and some of the short stories packed a punch. Overall, though, it was an underwhelming experience.

I got so much more out of this read than I was expecting! I was drawn to it by the illustrations--expressive and adorable, in a style that I really connect with. The fables that make up this volume are humorous at times, sad at others, and deeply affecting all the way through. I felt pulled into the pre-history of Greenberg's imagined world, and hope that there will be more to follow.
