C-3PO has always been one of my favorite characters. Anthony Daniels has been heavily invloved in star wars with all the film appearances, premiers, advertisements, specials, and star wars celebration. It was interesting to hear his thoughts and feeling on the whole franchise and his experiences in it. He does complain a lot but in my opinion rightfully so. Overall I reccomend to any star wars fan that wants to read about one of the most iconic characters in pop culture.

A good read for any Star Wars fan. However, there were some things that briefly mentioned that I wish Anthony Daniels had elaborated on, especially the feud between himself and the late Kenny Baker.

This is a very well detailed memoir about Anthony Daniels' experience being C-3PO. When I say very detailed I mean VERY DETAILED. He starts from the beginning when he first saw Ralph McQuarrie's concept art and first meeting George Lucas, describing each scene of filming A New Hope, to filming the rest of the saga, promos, the Oscars, PSA announcements, The Muppets, NPR radio, the merchandise, the autographs, even Hands Across America. He held Robin Williams' hand for that, so I found it on DuckDuckGo. He even spoke about the first Celebration in Denver, Colorado.

If you love Star Wars then these are details you either know already or would love to read/hear again from Anthony's point of view.

I could go into all the little details that I did not know before that interested me, but then that would feel like a one sided discussion. I'll just point out that for Anthony being in that first C-3PO suit sounded like torture for him (the cuts, the bruises, the nerve damage, the isolation.) So I felt bad for him when A New Hope first came out he wasn't given any credit. People thought he was just the voice because the studio and media were keeping the narrative that there wasn't a human in the suit providing the body language. Fans were under the impression that it was a real robot on screen. Things turned around for ESB.

What I did enjoy hearing, because I feel it validates my negative feelings and issues toward the Sequel Trilogy, were all the troubles, especially with the Rise of Skywalkerscript. Constant re-writes, even while filming. I think Anthony Daniels described that the RoS script changed like the terrain of the films. Warmer moments were gutted. The rhythm and vocabulary were difficult to learn last minute.

Mark Hamill was upset with the lack of his roll in The Force Awakens and was even less happy with his roll in The Last Jedi. I'm right there with you, Mark.

But the biggest disappointment was that there was no reunion between the Original trio characters. And not just Luke, Leia and Han, but C-3PO and R2-D2. I think Anthony described 3PO and R2 as a master class in odd couple bantering (I agree) but they were mostly separated in the Sequel Trilogy, but no one would dare separate Han and Chewie. Valid point there.

I don't want to end this on a negative note. This memoir is a great read for the big fans. I liked getting the insider knowledge, thoughts and feelings from the one actor who has been in all the films and nearly all of the side stories. There were some ups and downs but overall the story and this character is such a big part of 20th-21st century pop-culture history.

Really nice history of the making of the Star Wars films (all of them!) With lots of personal anecdotes from Daniels. His personal thoughts on the process and how he felt he was treated at times are really eye opening. Overall it's structured well with short snippet-like chapters which at times feels oddly ordered, but with a life like his and how filmmaking can be, it makes sense it can be a jumble of experiences. Overall I enjoyed it.
