My love for comics began with reading the comics section of the newspaper every weekend as a kid. Reading this collection was a joyful experience that took me back to those fun moments. I don't read a lot of comic strips anymore but I am always delighted to find a new series (especially one that brings me joy, like this one!). Steenz's Heart Takes the Stage is smart, funny, and charming, and will be sure to make you smile.

Thank you Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC of this book.

I found this very dry, but it may be that I didn't mesh with the humor. I don't know if most MG kids will have the patience for this though it brings up a serious issue of lack of school funding and the terrible conditions teachers face in a simple way. It also hints well at a middle-schooler who (may) like the same-sex/or is at least not heterosexual because it's not defined in this volume; it's not done with the 'this is a very special episode' tone.

Overall, the artwork was cute and managed to interweave a serious issue, but it couldn't capture my interest.

This is a pretty cute newspaper comic! Personally I prefer to read strips like this in the typical 4x1 format rather than 2x2, but with how much the Big Nate books get checked out at my library, I think most people prefer how convenient this size of book is to hold. The tiny little Gargoyles arc was pretty funny, there's some deep cuts for the nerdy readers around, and I think the protest arc will be really important for kids to see!

A fun look at life as a middle schooler. I loved that each member of Heart's little circle was different. I also loved the complete obliviousness of Heart on occasions, especially when Kat was trying to tell her she didn't like boys.
The art was very cute and all the different subjects that were covered are definitely things my tween is already going through
I also loved all the little pop culture references

This adorable comic strip collection follows a middle school girl named Heart and her friends.

I had never heard of the Heart comic strip before, but I’m so glad I decided to pick it up! Heart is a funny, mischievous, bossy, and dramatic middle schooler and I loved reading about her adventures. Some of the jokes were really funny, and I found myself especially amused by some of the humor of the adult characters. I really appreciated the theater aspect.- especially the techie character Charlotte who became a part of Heart’s friend group. Also, I want those strawberry earrings the drama teacher had - I loved the whole vibe of the teacher’s look!

This has a good balance of silliness and more serious topics, like school bullying/exclusion and lack of resources for teachers. I was pleasantly surprised by the teacher strike storyline that happened.

I was a little confused at times with the timeline/order events - sometimes one storyline would be happening and it would get interrupted by 1-2 pages of something else before going back to the storyline.

“You wanted my attention? Why? I don’t pay attention to anyone.”

First of all, thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for sending me a free digital copy of this book.

Okay, I had so much fun reading this. Heart, our main character is so funny, dramatic, extra, and bossy. I wish I was like her when I was in middle school. The characters are all so funny, the stories are great, there are good messages in them, and the drawings are perfect.

I needed a light reading and this one was the perfect one. Everyone can read it, kids, teens, and adults, and everyone will have a good time.

Maybe sometimes I was a bit lost with the timeline and with the order of the pages, but maybe it’s from my side, and even it’s not a big problem.

So yeah, it’s fun, and a great time, and a drama queen for the main character!
