I was expecting this little book to a bit of a Japanese Walden, instead it came across as a depressing reminder of dhukka (suffering) without much of a balanced amount of "happiness"?

Not that it was needed I guess, but the takeaway here seems to be "I couldn't contemplate the suffering of the world, so I decided to leave the world for good". Well, okay, but not all of us can do that...

But I don't know, I liked it. You get to see how the mind of this guy works. It feels a little bit voyeuristic, but it's got some valuable insight on the nature of natural calamities and how we react to them on a human level.
