"Sense is the song you sing out into the world, and the song the world sings back to you. Sing, and the world will answer. That is how you will see" - Nightsong by Ari Berk and Loren Long

Seems like a nice picture book for older children and sentimental mamas. Beautiful illustrations.

Nice! Chiro is a bit too cutesy, but the night illustrations are great, and I'd love to read this to a group of K or first graders who were learning about bats!

This charmer explains echolocation without ever using that word. Baby bat is afraid to go out at night by himself- he can't see well and isn't sure how he won't get lost or crash into things. How is he ever going to find dinner? His mom tells him to just sing his special song (the clicking noise we know bats to make) to figure out the distances between him and his surroundings, and he has a great time eating dinner and swimming out to the sea. Great book to connect to the PebbleGo Animals database, Austin's unofficial animal, the five senses, animal adaptations, and other Science topics.

Beautiful, gentle illustrations. This book pairs beautifully with Silverwing by Kenneth Oppel, in subject and theme.

I love this bat! The story is heart-warming, and the illustrations, which manage to show how a bat 'sees' in the dark using their 'song' is amazing. All thumbs up (in my case that's two)!!!
