We’ve got Venetia, the twice-widowed Great Beauty, in America looking to wed her sister to a handsome Duke. Said duke, naturalist and king of sangfroid, happens to have been pining for years over a certain Great Beauty, much to his shame and regret.

Or! Two strangers have an affair on the passage from New York to London, the lady veiled the whole time. Who is who, but only two lovers, with a week between them to fall in love.

Y’all the absolute swoon of this novel. The pining! The subterfuge! There’s a revenge plot, an “An Affair to Remember” nod, fossils, letters, bargains, and an absolutely stunning ending. I couldn’t believe how it all worked out after all the lying and deceit, but it was truly a masterfully woven love story.

Sherry has stunned me several times with her ability to juggle so many things in one novel successfully, and also her ability to hold my interest while doing these many things. I would trust her with my life.

When the Duke of Lexington meets the mysterious Baroness von Seidlitz-Hardenberg on a transatlantic liner, he is fascinated. She's exactly what he's been searching for--a beautiful woman who interests and entices him. He falls hard and fast--and soon proposes marriage.

And then she disappears without a trace...

For in reality, the "baroness" is Venetia Easterbrook--a proper young widow who had her own vengeful reasons for instigating an affair with the duke. But the plan has backfired. Venetia has fallen in love with the man she despised--and there's no telling what might happen when she is finally unmasked...
