Almost rated this 2 stars. Average story involving time travel for some reason.

Can four girl pilots and one living glowstick in a circus suit shock and awe an entire enemy camp into surrender?

Can I just get a comic about the Banshees? Not that Carol Danvers isn't great, but I would love to see more of them.

I loved this book. I knocked a star off just because I didn't like the time travel story at first, but I ended up really liking where it went in the end and it was a pretty creative way to remind readers of Carol's origin. I didn't know anything about her when I picked this up (okay, technically I read the six issues collected here on Marvel Unlimited - same idea) so I enjoyed that. I love that Carol is not just strong and powerful but also confident and even a little cocky. I think that gets tamped down in female characters a lot. I have a thing about female pilots so Carol and this first storyline were pretty much written for me. Looking forward to reading the rest of the run.

This was the first comic I've read in a while to really deeply impress me. I fell in love with Carol, and I thought it made a great intro to the character. The time travel plot is interesting, and not nearly as confusing as I think it could have been because the arc remained grounded in Carol's personal journey: her struggle to accept the mantle of Captain Marvel, and her relationships with a few key characters. Highly recommended!

It was somewhat confusing at times but overall I really liked the story and I want to read more about Captain Marvel because I thought she was a great character. Also, I loved the art of the first 4 issues.

The costume redesign: Love it, obviously.
The name change: Love it, and love Captain America being everybody's cool dad.
The art: Went in thinking I was going to be iffy on Dexter Soy and love Emma Rios, ended up loving Soy and being lukewarm on Rios, whose work is beeeautiful but felt less expressive than the former.
Coming in with no Ms. Marvel knowledge: Pretty easy, DeConnick provided a good rehash of her origins and gave the right number of context clues.
The story: Some beautiful moments, but the time travel stuff just didn't mesh. It's very unclear how much of it actually happened, and why it happened in the first place, since how would anyone remember it if it never happened...? So maybe it did, but then... what?
How would I feel about this series if I was a long-time fan: Dunno!
So hey while I'm doing a bullet list review: There seems to be a lot of cool iconic standalone superheroines (Wonder Woman, Batwoman) with a military background. Which has some logic to it, and there's always the more relatable ragtag misfit X-Men, but I would love to see, say, a genius billionaire playgirl philanthropist type. Maybe that's Kate Bishop?
