I can't even rate this. I love the first story. You can't help but picture the movie's characters while reading. As for the sequel...the author and Disney killed the hype. An absolute kill shot. The main character (the daughter of Max and Allison) is a 17-year-old lesbian who is in love with a Black girl who gets turned into a dog and stays that way for most of the book. I just...

The first half of the book is literally the movie written down. Not exaggerating. So it was okay. The second half of the book was much better. I had a lot of fun reading this. It had the same feeling as the first. Now just hoping the second movie is the same!

I can't wait until the movie comes out! The book is done in 2 parts. The first part is the original Hocus-pocus and the second part is years later with the daughter of Max. The writing style is just like the first one and I really enjoyed reading the second book. What I didn't really like was that I thought this was all about the second book but half of it was just repeating the first movie. I don't think that was needed.

I may have had way high expectations for this book since I love Hocus Pocus... but it just fell short for me. The entire first half of the story is a retelling scene for scene of the movie, which I didn't really need. Then the second half was meh. It was alright. I think I might have appreciated it more if I hadn't just spent half the book re-reading the movie. It's cute. For a kids book it's cute. As an avid Hocus Pocus fan, though, I definitely wanted more!

The rating is for the sequel half of this book. The novelization half of the book is fine, but you could honestly just watch the movie for a better experience.

This book is fanfic. I’m not saying that as a way to slam this because I like fanfic and have enjoyed plenty of published fanfic. But it’s just Next Gen fanfic that lacks the heart the original movie had.

It’s clunky and only worth a read if you’re really craving a Hocus Pocus sequel that isn’t the one that came out on Disney+.

I loved reading the first part which was basically just what you saw in the movie but I don't really care for the second story of this book. It just doesn't feel right.

So good! If you remind yourself that it is written for a younger audience you can look past some of the elementary chapters. Overall a great sequel and interesting twist to a story we all thought we knew so well! Personally I loved it and it’s a great quick Halloween read...can’t wait to see the movie!

The sequel was better than the film version

I enjoyed the first book and the second was so much better than the film Disney made. If the film would have followed this book it would have been worth the wait.

AAAAND I'M DONE. Dnf. Fuck no.
"she could be your isa-bae-lla"
I immediately paused and returned this to the library after that.
Are you fucking kidding me? You waste my time giving a bad actors version of the original movie then you're going to jump into some gag inducing contemporary fan service to try and grab the 13 year olds who don't know this movie? FUCK YOU.
I listened to this on audio and the reading was just awful but it was literally the exact same story as the original movie for the first almost half. Then they're just going to jump into some horrible "Omg snapchat bae why aren't you on insta oo I'm a real photographer because I take pictures of details and don't use insta filters lmfao bae"
