  I'm a little torn on this one. While I did enjoy this book enough, I felt very thrown off by a lot of it. I went into this thinking I was going to get a super light and fluffy YA book about country singers falling in love. I figured there would be some angst, just for conflict. While I did get what I wanted as far as the country singers falling in love it was not as fluffy as I hoped. This book is extremely heavy! The heroine was raised for a little while by her grandparents because her parents died (one of an overdose and the other suicide). While it was not on page she does talk about how she found them, and it was pretty detailed IMO. The hero is very much an addict and also almost loses his life due to an overdose (that is on page), and also has a lot of unresolved issues around the death of family members. Along with the drug/death part of this book, there are several times God is thrown in. A few times I felt like God was being used to guilt trip the heroine by her grandparents and then I also felt like the heroine almost punished herself with religion. I don't want it to sound like I didn't like this book because I did like so many things about it (especially how it all came together in the end), but I was not at all expecting it to take the turns that it did. I absolutely loved this authors adult romcom, and will read from her in the future I just think I wasn't prepared at all for this one.

This was way better than a 2.5 star rating, it just wasn’t my kind of thing, and I rate purely by enjoyment. I would definitely recommend this for fans of country music and/or more serious, meaningful romances, as opposed to lighthearted and fun ones. Very important trigger warning: suicide is spoken of throughout the book, and a suicide in someone’s past is detailed in chapter 23.

One of my favorite books. The story is adorable. The characters are complex and have things that they need to work through but the aesthetic and vibe of this book are immaculate.
