The last quarter of this book was as meaty as I wanted the entire thing to be, but the resolution was clever, tidy and satisfying

This was heaps fun! Don't think I've ever read a french, feminist heist novel. I loved the FU attitude on Patience Portefeux. Middle-aged female misanthropes are massively under-represented in popular culture. Patience is also massively sympathetic, and while this is not critical to everyone's enjoyment of a central character (nor should it be) I totally dug it. Really interesting social commentary around societal attitudes and power structures relating to drugs, crime, and colonization. Also, got to love a short, sharp, snappy book.

A fantastic book, with some real warmth and heart in it. It follows a woman whos parents both lost their homeland, and who's now lost her home following the death of her husband. Here we get to see her getting red up of her semi-pointless job, chancing on a way to make some money, and realising that nobody would really suspect her.

There's some commentary here on French racial attitudes, and the war on drugs, but it stays thankfully small and not preachy, so it fits in well with the dark sense of homour the book has
