Although I never had the real click my friends had with the Netflix series Lucifer, I do enjoy books where Lucifer, or people somehow related to him, play a big role. So, when I got the chance to review this book, first in a series, I didn't think one moment and said yes. I might have a few too many review books to read at the moment, but it are all books I would have wanted to read anyway, so it's not that bad.

Although the writing of this book is far from perfect, I would say there is a little too much tell and not all conversations of the characters seem natural, it is quickly overcome by all the other elements of the story. The plot is not going very fast, but Young feeds us more than enough glimpses of the future, prophecies and political history to keep us on the tips of our toes and most of all interested in what's waiting for us in the next books.

It also helps that I'm pretty sure we've only seen so little of the world Young is building in this book. We already learned a lot about Angels, Demons, Mages and Fae and yet there are still so many questions unanswered and so many parts of the world left unexplored. No matter how much I love this version of the hell, and Lucifer and Lilith, I can't wait to see Gabe's house and meet his parents, even though he doesn't feel too at ease with them.

And despite the fact that not all conversations seem natural and that there's a lot of tell, I do get the feeling we really get to know the characters in this book quite well already. Young really takes her time to introduce the guys to us, to make us care about them and like them and then she adds Lana to the mix, giving us a chance to bond with her too. And since their minds are linked, they are also communicating about their insecurities and fears incredibly much, which made me love their dynamic even more.

That cliffhanger, however! I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

The balance of the darkness & light is threatened and the future of the universe is at stake, will Lana and her mates have what it takes to stop it?

This is a great story. I like the way the author writes. She has weaved together a beautiful world. Things are very intense for Lana. Fate dealing her an impossible fate. Secrets are being kept. They seem like they could destroy it all. I'm not sure I fully understand what is happening. I'm trying to see where this is going, but I can't. I have no clue what is coming next, but I absolutely cannot wait!

I have been a fan of Jenn D Young for a few months and after reading her other books I started reading her other works. I would say you need to start with the book before this one, it's a prequel and you'll feel like you're missing things from the start if you don't.

I love angels and demons, so this book was great, plus the FMC was very unique! The world building that Jenn was able to do was incredibly interesting. Jenn plays up on the dark and light that we associate with angels and demons. I'm also loving the

Balanced Threatened by Jenn D. Young is the first book in her Unyielding Fates series. The author introduces readers to a paranormal world where balance is essential. A girl born of a demon and an angel is the perfect balance to it all. But her powers may be too much for her as she grows, so her father asks that they be locked away...knowing the cost that he will face in a short time to come. His request is granted, but years later...his daughter is put into a sleep that is meant to last for five years, but when the balance is being targetted...she must be awakened in order to fight those who are threatening everything.
Balanced Threatened is the first book that I have read by this author and for the most part...I truly enjoyed this book. I've read several books similar to this one, but this book has some major differences that help it stand out and apart from the rest. The prologue piques my interest and quickly pulls me into this book. Then when the author transitions into the later years she surprises me. I was expecting the storyline to pick up where Lana (the female mc) is struggling with nightmares about what happened to her parents and vowing revenge. Instead, the author gives me Ezra and Gabe, her two mates as they are trying to get through life a day at a time while missing her and looking forward to the day that she returns to them. I was pleasantly surprised by this and honestly, I appreciate it.
This book is told from multiple points of view so you get something from all of the main characters in this story. I like how the author alternates between them all and keeps me engaged as I am able to see inside of their minds with their own personal struggles as well. This book is a real page-turner and I enjoyed reading it.
Now, this book does have some issues. I felt that there was quite a bit of repetition throughout. Certain phrases would be repeated again almost back to back and I felt that it took away from the storyline. It comes off as exactly what it is repetitive and unnecessary. Then, I had a bit of an issue with them wanting to get all riled up and getting an attitude when they learn that there is more to the prophecy than what they were initially told. I get being irritated, but being rude, and full-blown angry is just stupid. Especially when they are told that it was information that they didn't need to know at the time. I figured that revelation, them not needing to know yet, would settle them down a bit, but they acted like they weren't basically still children at the time. I was just honestly annoyed because I felt that they were out of line.
I really did enjoy this book so I am rating it 4 out of 5 stars. There are some steamy scenes, lots of sarcasm, major drama, and more so this book has a lot going for it. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series as I'm sure that it's going to be a good one!

This was a really great book! You just need to make sure that you read the prequel that is in the Fight the Night anthology. If you don't read the prequel, you will feel a little lost at the beginning. You can read this story without reading the prequel, but it is much more enjoyable if you do.

So, again, this book was really great! I loved the different types of character and the play between the angels and demon. I also liked that the angel acted a bit more like a demon and the demon was more straight laced. The story had a really creative premise with a prophecy and surprise characters. I am really excited to see where this series goes.
