an acquired taste, but once you get into it, quite delicious.
Eddie! Oedipus! Thanks to other reviews I figured that out. A lot more brilliant at second glance than first.

More good than bad. Retelling of Greek myths set in the East End.
That being said, holy strippers Batman. Maybe I lead a sheltered life, but I've never seen so many naked ladies in a comic book.

I wish the allusions were a tad more subtle; the character names in particular are a bit cheesy. That said, this volume picked up for me a little over halfway through, and even though I'd pretty much decided not to read the next volume, I'm intrigued in spite of myself. Especially since I do like the Cassandra character (Sandy), and the next volume seems to feature her more prominently.
I think I need to reread this one. There's a germ there, but I found it too rushed, too choppy, the characters only half-formed. Part of the problem is Gianfelice's artwork, which isn't always laid out effectively, and is chock full of generic character designs that are hard to dinstinguish at times, and just plain dull overall. Milligan's dialogue doesn't seem up to his best work either.

I like Milligan, he’s done some good work at vertigo, but this fell flat for me. Felt like he was trying to build his own Vertigo universe like Gaiman, but it just didn’t work for me. I read three issues and still didn’t really know or care about any of the characters. Didn’t really grasp their stakes or motivations.
One star for finishing this one. This about takes the cake in shitty comics. The art wasn't that great to me, and the plot was completely confusing.
This had the potential to be good. (read: POTENTIAL). This was supposed to be a Greek mythology retelling, combining the myths and characters with a modern plot and setting. That, with the amazing cover art seemed really promising.
But boy did it flop. The art inside doesn't look like the cover art, and it definitely wasn't for me. And the story was bad. It was confusing, and the plot had too much happening. The dialogue also didn't add to the reader's understanding.
I think the author knew a lot about mythology and wrote this, not considering that the reader may not know all of the stories and characters. It seemed like we were to jump in with both feel and know all of the characters from each other, who was a myth character and a mortal. And I didn't, even though I read a lot of mythology.
And what was happening in the plot? It seemed like some sort of mafia story with a monster thing or something?? IDK. And I dont care to read further to find out.

Really dissapointed.
The story felt forced and poorly written. The artwork was great thought there was a little too much nudity personally and not enough substance. It was fun, got to give it that, but I expected and hoped for so much more than this.
