I’m giving this 3 stars, but an honest review would be 3.5; it was a good read, but I wouldn’t call it great.

I loved the premise of this book. Without spoiling it, the whole book takes place in a creepy IKEA-knock-off store. And by creepy, I do mean creepy! This part of the story was very well done. The horror elements were spot on, in my opinion.

The part where the story fell short for me? Though the main character, Amy, was relatable, she was hard to connect to because of her inability to connect to anyone. I enjoyed the supporting characters, but because we’re viewing everyone through Amy’s lens, her detachment made everything that took place in the book feel distant. If there had been a little bit more exploration of her humanity, the horrible things that took place would have been so much better, because we could have cared more for everything. Since she didn’t, though, the ending felt sort of anti-climactic in a sense. This one thing affected the entire book for me.

Despite all that, I did find the ending satisfying. Overall, I think it’s well worth reading for some intriguing and unique creepiness.

If supernatural horror is your kind of thing, you'll like this book. The writing was good and it's a very quick read. It kept me invested and on my toes the whole time. However, I'm a big old scaredy cat, sooo. Probably shouldn't have read this book. But, again, if supernatural horror is your thing, you'll probably like this book! Objectively, it was very good.
