In terms of “western” books, this book has a classic macro-plot that one would expect. However, a heroine lead is a refreshing perspective to the male-dominated stories of the Wild West. However, the clichés often found in westerns hold true in this book, including savage natives (but elevated in this book) and superfluous trophy hunters. The plot often jumps erratically and many of the creative elements are a bit exaggerated. I’d recommend other westerns over this one, but still a solid book.
