The ghost stories are interesting and the characters are likable. It like a paranormal Sherlock Holmes with minor Scooby-Doo vibes. Since some stores had the paranormal event that were a hoax while others are real. Also multiple people bring guns to fight the ghost and shoot at then, which is kinda funny. Since they aren’t even special salt guns, they are just regular guns with regular bullets.

A Forgotten Classics book. Good for mindless background story when I was doing other things. I guess I just don't find ghosts that spooky, generally?

I read these stories after seeing that Carnacki was one of the latest characters in Alan Moore's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The short stories are a cross between Edgar Allen Poe's Dupin detective stories and Poe's gothic horror stories, and are an interesting quick read.

Beautifully written classic ghost stories with a cozily creepy atmosphere. The fact that most of the stories do not actually contain anything supernatural just makes it even better. It reminded me a little of a more serious, creepier adult version of Scooby-Doo. Enjoyed it a lot!

Clever Sherlock-like short mysteries with a bit of the supernatural.

Good novel on cosmic terror, or gothic terror from the 19th century. A good author that died young at first World War. On the same line of work that Lovecraft but different plots.

It's been sitting on my virtual shelf too long, and October is a good month to read about ghosts.
Carnacki is surprisingly modern, with all his paraphernalia such as electric pentacles and photo-apparatus, but he still manages to tremble as a maid in the dark.
