REREAD #2 UPDATE:

It says quite a bit about this story that I'm still entranced and delighted on my third read. It feels like a visit with old friends.

REREAD UPDATE:

No idea why I only gave 4 stars to this fantastic urban fantasy novella the first time I read it. I must have been in a mood. It has an exciting plot, complex characters, a diverse cast, and a seasoning of social commentary. It's an excellent adventure, and I love it. On to the second book!

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

San Francisco is trapped under the machinations of Mammon, Prince of Hell. Desperate to protect their beloved home, two witches reach back into the past to pull forward into modern times the hero the city needs again— the Emperor Norton. In a race against disasters and demonic forces, Madge and Iria send Joshua across time in a quest to save the Golden city.

This exciting novella is a promising start to a paranormal series both historical and contemporary.
