This is an old favorite of mine, so I'm horribly biased. The story straddles the border between scifi and fantasy, but other than most sf/f mixes, it's scenery is sf with f elements not the other way round. If you subscribe to ACC's adage that any technology advanced enough is indistinguishable from magic, if you like quirky characters, a charmingly awkward love affair, and parrots - give it a try.  :-)

Very good story, but the narrator was very robotic.

Overall an enjoyable read. There was in my opinion more focus on romance than making the Sci-fi work in a convincing manner.

The writing was lacking I would say
- using acronyms for long titles after having mentioned them once, and then using that acronym one or two times. That is lazy writing, and leads to confusion for the reader
- using time as an indicator of how long out ships were from arriving.
I could accept it if there was an instance of people mentioning distance and then simulating calculations to indicate the time but there was not, so I don't accept it
- it seemed like there was a lot of times where a reference was put to something that felt like you should have read but it had not occurred, so I guess bad editing might have been complicit here
- can't remember more right now, but these are a few instances

I have complained before about this in other books.
One of the things that drive plot here are people afraid/reluctant/unwilling to tell the whole truth and show trust. This is just so horribly boring and cliché.

Why can't authors write romance without this being one of the major plot drivers, I simply don’t understand it.

To think that the summary almost made me skip this book... horrible thought! I've read most of [a:Linnea Sinclair|202269|Linnea Sinclair|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1200676158p2/202269.jpg]'s novels (except the one with the zombies, but I may take a peek later) these last few days and [b:An Accidental Goddess|352727|An Accidental Goddess|Linnea Sinclair|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320424201s/352727.jpg|342952] turned out to be my favorite! Now, how to summarize the experience?

It's a delightfully & funny tale of
Simon says,
Fix it, Mack,
and stuff a sock in it (with parrots)!
Though Simon is still searching for the required sock by the end of the book. However, the parrots earned their keep by then.

If you love twisted humor, a fast-paced, action- and character-driven plot (3rd person) with romance, this is a book you shouldn't miss. :)

Pretty cute, though the cover they are using on Goodreads is a little more sexy than the cover of the book I have. It really is more of a love story than anything else with some magic and tech tossed in for flavor.

A perfect balance between romance and adventure. The feeling are very believable and enjoyable to read about. The heroes are perfect with their mistakes and imperfections. I can't get enough of Linne Sinclair.

Mack was definitely my favourite character in An Accidental Goddess. He was so thoughtful, forgiving and treated Gillaine with respect. Their romance was very cute, but I hated how long it took Gillaine to open up about her true identity. It felt like she was unnecessarily deceiving Mack and it only served to create more tension and conflict later on in the plot, all which could have been avoided. Not a huge fan of this 'hidden identity' trope, especially when the hero had proved himself trustworthy so many times over.

I also felt like this book was a lot more info-dumpy than [b:Finders Keepers|352725|Finders Keepers|Linnea Sinclair|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1408434463l/352725._SY75_.jpg|2873480], which made the start really confusing and hard to sieve through. The plot was also really strong right up until the end, and then just kind of fizzled out with a half conclusion/resolution? Considering it's a stand-alone novel, I didn't really understand why so many things were just left unanswered. Linnea could definitely have cut words from somewhere else to give us some solid conclusions.

In saying all of that, I really did enjoy the book and loved that it wasn't just chock-a-block filled with smut (rare among this genre).

Honestly, I love Linnea Sinclair's style of writing. Even though I hated this book, her writing style still gripped me enough to make me finish. I just couldn't get behind the characters at all. First of all, Mack seemed a little too perfect, even down to the use of the phrase "...if he had a flaw...". If that was meant to be ironic, it wasn't clear, and came off as ridiculous. Gillie was too goodie two shoes, considering she was being portrayed as rough-around-the-edges, which meant that reading that it was "abhorrent" to her to use someone for her own gain just didn't really sit well with me. It could've been left out, we would've accepted that she wasn't using Mack!

SpoilerApart from that, Mack's jealousy just got on my nerves. They'd known each other for about a week when he started acting possessive and ridiculous. The cliché of Gillie falling into Tobias' arms and Mack walking in at just the right moment to be jealous had me rolling my eyes. Not to mention the fact that he proposed so quickly. That just made no sense to me. It didn't help that we never really heard whether Gillie agreed or not, and he seemed happy to just leave the question hanging in the air right to the very end.

And finally, the parrots. I get that they had a point in the end, but by all that is good, why were they there? Just saying there were hundreds of parrots on station and making a comment about them being linked to shift changes repeatedly didn't explain for one second why they were hundreds of parrots...on a SPACE STATION.

Overall, just not a good book. Felt a bit Mary Sue/Gary Stu-ish, and was overall very disappointing considering how much I adored Gabriel's Ghost and Shades of Dark. This is ironic, since I was frustrated by both of these books because of the way telepathy was portrayed, and how it was referenced almost like it was rape, and yet it was dealt with very lightly. I still enjoyed them despite this. And yet so many people hate those books for being sexist, for portraying the female lead as vapid and flat etc. And yet so many people love this book and are willing to brush over the jealousy and possessiveness and how Gillie is treated like an item to be owned.

Oh, and one last note. Hair like "moonlight and starlight"? And eyes that were "green yet lavender"? What were you thinking, Sinclair?!

I only read this because it was recommended by one of my favourite authors as part of the inspiration for a book she wrote. It was quite good actually. I enjoyed reading it.

2nd reading: It didn't quite hold up compared to when I first read it 6 years ago. My tolerance for romance has decreased and the science fiction parts were barely window dressing to the romance. It didn't help that it used romance tropes that have gone out of fashion in terms of telling a compelling romance- miscommunication, secrets and lies.
