I love that this book could be used to also encourage drawing, and would work side-by-side as it is read aloud!

Even silly nonsense rhyme has to be precise and intentional, and some pages it felt extremely forced here.

Simple rhyming text and a child-like drawing style. This would be a good read-aloud, especially for chinese new year, mid-autumn festival, or a dragon storytime.

The art was not for me.

I work in a book store and when I came across this book I had to read it for our storytime! The simple and imaginative approach to the story got the kids really excited to draw their own dragons. The rhyming worked really well for Poetry Month. At the end we had our own art show in the store, displaying our dragons in the kid's department! :)

Some solid advice if you ever want to draw a dragon.

Hilariously avoids the issue of where/whether you could find a dragon, and instead gives tips on how to safely capture every detail. Shows a myriad of kids drawing all kinds of dragons, with a fold-out exhibition at the end. Great fun--terrific stepping off point for an art program.

Diverse kids, diverse dragons, lots of choices of activities and great illustrations combine to make this a fun read aloud for preschoolers. Rhyming text felt forced once or twice, but overall this book is wonderful. The illustrations are crayonish - which is perfect to encourage young readers to give it a go themselves (art doesn't have to be perfect to be great!). I definitely recommend this one.
