Horrible. Absolutely horrible. I cannot deal with how much I hated this book. I got it from my library, thinking that it sounded pretty cool. Oh how wrong I was. It's storyline is very disjointed and hard to follow, and nothing is really explained in enough detail to really give you a good idea of what's going on. Don't bother with this book, it's not worth the time.

The story is a pretty solid Sci-fi. I love the use of time travel. It takes a while for the main characters to develop but a large part of that is due to the complex effects of them using the diskos to travel through time. I am curious to see where the author takes the story in the next book, especially the development of the Plague. I'm not sure how many of my middle school students will enjoy this novel, but I found it to be rather interesting. Some of my gifted students will like it.

I'm leaving it, for now, with three stars (good) for now. A lot depends on the follow up books. Aside from the story line, the narrator was great and carried the perfect tone for all of the characters.

I listened to the audiobook which I highly recommend! The narrator was excellent in doing the different voices. Weird concept but I'm a sucker for weird science fiction. Brings up interesting issues about time travel, religion, free will, technology, and more. I really want to read the next in the series. I started listening to this book after I read an interview with Pete Hautman in VOYA magazine. Sounds like a cool dude!

The story reminded me of pendragon
in the sense that everyone knows he’s a hero (??) but the main character has not yet come to that realization
but did not get me as emotionally involved. There weren’t enough relationships between characters. The main character is emotionally repressed, but the author never makes the time for him to grow. There is a clear story that the author intended to tell, and he told it. My main frustration, however, is that there didn’t seem to be a clear message that he wanted to convey through that story.

Libby gave this as the only result when I was looking for The Bladed Faith by David Dalglish.. that’s why I ended up reading it. I’ll try the sequel; high hopes for the Yar Lia.
