In this historical YA fantasy, we follow “Nannerl” (Marianna) Mozart, older sister to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as she navigates growing up as a talented girl musical prodigy in the 18th century. She longs to be remembered for her not only her skillful playing of music but also for composing, but she knows her father disapproves of her being anything but the accompaniment to her younger brother, Wolferl’s, musical genius.

All Nannerl wants is to be remembered; for her name to be known as a composer of beautiful music. Her and Wolferl begin to imagine another world, a magical place called the Kingdom of Back - and in this place, they meet a boy named Hyacinth who tells Nannerl he can make all her dreams come true.

But as Nannerl grows up and learns that being a woman may mean being forgotten in the shadow of her younger brother, she is faced with a difficult decision: which is stronger - her love for her brother or her need for the world to know her name?

This story has such a nice blend of music, feminism, fantasy and history. It is such a beautiful and saddening story of a forgotten woman and what she might have felt living in her brother's shadow. There's also faeries, music and complicated characters. It's a very cozy, whimsical story that I think children, teens and adults could read and enjoy.

Okay so honestly, I thought this started out a little slowly - but the use of foreshadowing is masterful and it definitely picks up pace. In the end, I loved, loved, loved it.
