Fear Street # 92

Lizzy Caldwell has been snubbed by the Waynesbridge Scouts, the height of Waynesbridge Middle School Girl Society, and she's disappointed and furious. Even her best friend Caroline Hurt got accepted and is leaving her behind! Then, Lizzy is approached by Amy, a new girl just transferred from Shadyside. Amy knows of a club that isn't obsessed with girly things. They prefer things a little scary, in fact. The Camp Fear Girls sounds perfect! When Lizzy attends her first meeting she finds there's something off about the club and the other girls. Things are more than a little scary, and now they've invited her on a camping trip in the Fear Street Woods where she'll be "initiated".

From start to finish this one was amazing. 'Camp Fear Ghouls' is one of the best books of the franchise, let alone the 'Ghosts of Fear Street' subseries. Jahnna N. Malcolm creates a solid main character in Lizzy and doesn't forget the supporting cast. I liked that Caroline had a major part to play and wasn't just a hanger-on like most sidekicks in Goosebumps-esque books. A focus on cliques and peer pressure leading to danger is perfect for a middle grade thriller, and, best of all, the Fear Street lore is rock-solid. I'm sure you'll be extra careful from now on when you're collecting firewood in the dark....
