I loved learning so much about a state that has meant to much to me!

It could’ve used some better editing, and I kept wishing there was an essay to go along with each chapter (written by the author or famous Minnesotans or just average citizens) for a more personal touch, but I learned a lot and discovered plenty of new places I want to visit someday.

A hefty coffee table type book, AmazingMN is a lushly designed celebration of all of the cool stuff that makes life in Minnesota great. Packed full of all of those “Minneapolis is the number one at (whatever), Minnesota is the top (something) in the country, we’re the third best state for (that other thing)” statistics that we love to rattle off, there is definitely a blizzard of fun, braggable facts being offered here. Arranged by variety of topics, from history, economy, and our culture of volunteerism and diversity, to our strong live theater, music, and outdoor sporting scenes, and packed with graphs, photos of our vibrant winters and even some puns, you are pretty much sure to see something interesting any page you flip to.

Compiled, not surprisingly, by a prominent local advertising executive, in order to serve as an endorsement of how it might be a good idea to move here for young professionals, AmazingMN does a good job showcasing our strengths and quirks. While a few negatives are mentioned, such as our poor job of spreading our benefits to our minority populations, the tone throughout is one of breathless positivity. I do wonder, though, how many of the residents of other states feel the need to publish such a lavish, self promotional tribute to their merits. Still, for Minnesotans (and those looking to move here), there are plenty of fun facts to quote at your next party.
