This one was compelling, almost not quite a 4-star only because it was hard to figure out for quite a while what was happening and when this took place. It even seemed like it was a sci fi or alternate universe situation at first. But the story itself draws you in.

Written from the perspective of a young child who is working as a translator for her captors, who are putting her people into slavery... this is just gut-wrenching and amazing. The writing is wonderful. This is definitely an author I'm going to start voraciously reading!

Muito dolorido de ler, um pequeno texto que aponta duas questões interessantes: o uso de crianças como reféns no comércio de pessoas para o trabalho escravo, e o papel de mulheres como intérpretes e tradutoras. Muito bom.

I love that the author was inspired by the additional research had done for another work to create this story because I feel like it really elevates that historical aspect of these horrific experiences. I absolutely want to read her other works purely based on this short story alone.

Beginning to realize this Point In Time novellas are rather sad. I found this one particularly sad.

I didn't really get into this. Maybe I was not ready to start it, immediately after finishing a previous audiobook, but not ready mentally to jump into another. I didn't follow it well, but the reading was very good, except for the fact that her accent was so heavy that it was hard to make out several words.
