I am drawn to poetry that is abstract. Images and pre-conscious experiences pulled out into poetry are not easily translated into words, or immediately accessible, and since when does poetry have to be universally engaging? I like the challenge of these words. I like that there is a distance between the words and the reader. For me, this distance is breached suddenly and violently by particular phrases and sounds. I love 'recovery,' it smacked me in the face.
