Talia Hibbert making me love her characters again. I'm glad Rae wasn't really concerned about her TERRIBLE ex-husband literally stealing her work. Cause I damn well was mad enough for her. It's just like a manipulative bastard to marry someone brilliant and convince them to do their work for them. Imagine how many famous men would have been nothing if their wives haven't given them the idea that made them famous! And I've decided I'm getting a t-shirt and baseball cap made that says "Gauche Divorcee" 🤷🏾‍♀️ sue me!

Another strong addition to Hibbert's RAVENSWOOD series, featuring British black women and white men falling in love. This book's male protagonist is Zach, a 28-year-old former player who has a really good reason for his sexual turn-around, rather than the usual "I met my one and only and now I don't want to look at anyone else." During the previous two books, he's gotten to know and become friends with divorced 40-year old fantasy novelist Rae, who is something of a scandal in the quiet town of Ravenswood. Rae's two female friends in town are paired with Zach's brother and best friend, so the six of them hang out a lot together. So when Rae needs a plus-one to help not feel embarrassed at a book convention where her ex is due to be a headliner (along with his much-younger new wife and kid), she naturally turns to fun, flirtatious Zach.

Love how Hibbert gestures towards common romance annoyances, then almost always immediately undercuts them (emphasizing good communication, rather than relationships that fall apart because of silly secrets). And I really enjoy Hibbert's depiction of more emotionally in-tune heroes, rather than the more typical alpha/protector he-men that populate far more romances that one would imagine in our purportedly "post-feminist" times.
