There was absolutely nothing fresh or original about this book. It felt like Aveyard had a list of dystopian YA tropes, put them into a grab bag, and randomly drew some out. There were elements of just about every other dystopian YA novel littered throughout the book, and the "big surprises" did not surprise me at all. This wasn't unpleasant to read, and I don't regret reading it, but that's about as much praise as I can heap on Red Queen.

Finally, on a personal note, I must address my biggest YA pet peeve. YA authors, I am BEGGING you: stop with the love triangles! They are driving me insane.

Rating is because it was good writing.

I still have issues with some of the tropes. I mean, thank goodness every young man who meets our heroine is able to fall in love with her and risk everything for her, because she would never accomplish anything without a boyfriend.
