The illustrations by Isabelle Arsenault are lovely. They were created with gouache, charcoal, and soft pastels.

This light story could pair well with [b:A Spark in the Dark|60204280|A Spark in the Dark|Pam Fong|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1650237955l/60204280._SX50_.jpg|94944072].

Edit: I had to change my rating, because reading this book with a kid completely changed the experience. Arsenault's illustrations pulled the little one I was reading two right in. He even whispered "Wow!" several times! We found surprising ways to engage with the text, like identifying the colors and size of the lights. It was one of my most delightful story time experiences ever!

Absolutely charming with a strong message. Arsenault's illustration's shine (pun intended)!
