‘All-boys-club’ going on a quest to find a magic herb to save ‘sleeping beauty’. Decent fantasy storytelling and world building. An enjoyable light read, as long as I keep my ‘inner raging feminist’ in check ;-)

I took me a while to get into this series, but this one was definitely better than the first two books. An interesting villain, noble quest, etc. The next book in the series is already on order, so we'll what happens next..

I first read this book in 1993, and it helped me fall in love with the fantasy genre. I only vaguely remembered it however, so was able to enjoy it all over again. I like it the best out of the first three books and can’t wait to read the last of the series and then the many tie-in series. This book was all about magic. It had good elves, bad elves, magical creatures and a Princess poisoned on her wedding day. To save her, a great magician , Pug/Milamber, put her in limbo until the elusive Silverthorn plant could be obtained. It thankfully didn’t have many battle scenes, which I don’t enjoy reading very much. And I love the Elven forest under the ice at the end of the book. I hope the next book goes into more detail as I’m a sucker for elves, lol!

The third book in the Riftwar Saga, and the weakest till now in my opinion. It is fast paced, but the story is much simpler and straight forward, as if Feist just had to get it over with. I found the two Magician books superior in many respects. But I do plan to perhaps read The Empire Trilogy later down the road.

I didn't enjoy this quite as much as the first book, but Jimmy the Hand is by far one of my favourite characters. The scenes from his perspective in the first third of the book were excellent. The rest of the book meandered a little bit, though I'm looking forward to continuing in the final book.

I actually enjoyed this more than the first two. More of the meta-plot progresses in this book, and while a number of the same writing quality issues persist, the story is intriguing enough to carry interest. Still only a “beach read” type of book, but I’m curious now to see how the series ends.
