This book held my interest from beginning to end and I didn't see how the humans would survive what a mysterious object was doing to them. You'll have to read the book to understand if there were any winners in this battle against the object. The journey to the end is a thrilling, confusing, and mysterious journey and I enjoyed reading how the various characters dealt with what was happening, due to the object and past actions of men.

Are minds being "hacked" by man made or alien technology? What is this strange object that has been found and that affects everyone and everything it comes in contact with? The ending of the book certainly made me think and feel powerless to change the future but if change is to happen, it must happen now or it'll be totally out of mankind's hands later.

Thanks to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for this ARC.

From the very beginning of this book, I wasn't sure, but I really wanted to like it. I think the first turn off for me was the heavy military references. There are tonnes of books out there that can tell a story by just saying the guy had a gun, instead of going in depth into what kind of gun it is, or what bullets are in it. I overcame that in hopes the rest of the book would make up for it. Sadly, it did not. The story just didn't keep me interested. Even other reviews talking about the twist ending couldn't keep me into this book. I stopped half way, and decided if I thought about it, I would pick it up again. I didn't, and I'm 100 pages into another book that has instantly made me not regret pulling my bookmark out of this book and adding it to the DNF shelf.

nothing too original here.

Hate a leader (Legend) who is a boss in name only. Legend didnt make any original contributions to situation. Asked for input & followed it. & another irk: orb anti-grav came up at one point & was just a red haring i guess, but put a giant plot hole in the story line. As in: how did the military not do a better job quarantine-ing the situation once they saw that. Made no difference to story as its mind control powers could just force a meat-sack to carry it.

Pretty good book, I enjoyed it a lot. I took a star off because it became a little predictable at the end but then he pulled a surprise that was good enough that I added the star back. Then there is a long preachy section after the story from the author so I took the star back off. There definitely things I wish he had done differently but it also left a lot of possibility for future books so its well worth reading. #reset #brianandrews

Mini-Review:

4 Stars for Narration by Ray Porter
4 Stars for Story Concepts
3 Stars for Story

Entertaining story with solid characters. I had fun listening to the book. Ideas behind the story are great but key bits were not drawn out in a believable manner.

2.75 - like a Crichton tech thriller minus the interesting tech part. and not a very good thriller.
