I would like to read part 2 to be able to cast a more appropriate vote, but so far I loved it :)

Another story from Curran's point of view. Well, this time it's not actually a scene retold. This is when Kate, Julie and Curran movie into their new house which provides an opportunity to tell Curran's story (where he comes from, how he lost his parents, what he did afterwards before he became the Beast Lord). It feels kind of ... rusty? The story isn't all that fluent, not like the scenes from his POV we read earlier. Moreover, this is just part 1 of 2 and because it's not actually finished yet, there are also quite a few typos which always throws me off. And it's nothing really new except who Curran's parents were pre-Shift (which felt weird too) because he told the story to Kate before. But it was still nice to "be back" before getting into book #9. :D

Re-reading the series with the Ilona Andrews Addicts, before 'Magic Binds' comes out in September 2016. This short Curran POV I haven't actually read before.

"It was moving day. Kate, Julie and me were taking boxes out of the back of a rented truck and carrying them into our new place."

Very short and missing a conclusion, as it's only part 1.  It's a recapitulation of Curran's backstory and what happened to his family. Nothing new, if you have read the series, but nicely written.

goddddddd i was not prepared for this i was NOT PREPARED FOR THIS!!! kate & curran (& julie) being gross & domestic together and making breakfast together and THEY'RE GETTING MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm honestly gonna die i don't even know what to say right now. this was basically everything i have ever wanted post-Pack tbh.

i'm not sure how accurate the djinn & ifrit and other related lore are in this, but they're cool nonetheless. it's about time i made a ghouls category -- i've certainly read enough books with ghouls in them & they're one of my fave creatures of lore -- and i looooooved the ghoul lore in this. loved it. v

the family dinner with roland at applebee's was A Lot, i was screaming. that poor waiter.

i literally have no words for this book right now.

I love Kate. I LOVE her. And I love every character in these books. And I love Ilona Andrews for creating such an effortlessly inclusive world that leaves me sometimes laughing hysterically and sometimes sobbing like a baby. While this wasn't my favorite book in the series, I still loved it, and still find such comfort spending time with these characters and this magic.

This felt like a filler episode considering the last book. Also, some stuff felt like they came out of nowhere (a new relationship) and were given explanation. I finally classified them as 'well, this may as well happen' just to move on but it still felt like they were just smashed together to progress Kate/Curran storyline and it felt *yawn* meh.

However, *surprise, surprise* Curran wasn't annoying me as much as he usually does. I feel like he reached a peak of annoyingness in 6th book and then he decided he couldn't possibly top that so he calmed down. Small blessings, yeah?

I feel like there wasn't as much of estabilished and well liked (or maybe just by me) side characters like Andrea or Dessandra because of the whole pack situation but Jim, Dali, and Barabass (hmm, even George) had their moments and it was cool to see them have some spotlight.
Also, it was neat that we got a bit of Arabian mythology this time! And it tied to Kate's main story even though it seemed to come out of nowhere at the beginning.

Big part of what's keeping me invested in this series was always its humour and despite some really serious scenes I had some good laughs with this book (especially with the whole living situation and Dali being No Shit Taken Consort) so I'm not complaining too much.
