Wow oh wow I loved this. The perfect Nordic Noir book set in Iceland and featuring Detective Hulga who grabs one last case before being pushed into retirement. What is it about this cold case that she can't let go of? This was such an enjoyable police procedural and we learn so much about Hulga in this short, but sweet book. She is savy and endearing and is definitely one who fights for justice no matter what. The mystery itself really stumped me and THE ENDING OMG WHAT?! I cannot wait to read more of this trilogy; I'm starting immediately!

4.5 stars. It was an enjoyable read. Pacing at the end felt a bit rushed as the author wanted to tie all the loose ends. The ending was a surprise!

This was a strange read.  The story concept was intriguing but I just found the execution to be boring.  Hulda is a detective on the verge of retirement when she picks up one last cold case.  I liked seeing how the case progressed but I did think that Hulda made a few silly decisions.  While I wanted to know the outcome and the ending was a shock, I found the story to be dull & boring.
