He must be the most ungrateful person on the planet.

In his book, he tries to gaslight you into thinking he is just a regular guy with no money who is reduced to such lengths as having to shop at TK Maxx and Ikea.

I truly find everything about european royalty fascinating, so figured I would like this book. and I did. there were lots of salacious stories and many details I gasped at. I enjoyed getting to hear harry’s perspective on everything and his anecdotes were hilarious. I really feel for him and his family trying to make space for themselves in the world to just do good and live a normal life.

however, I think there are some strong critiques that I can’t get over to rate this higher. first, this man comes from immense privilege and one of the most influential families in the entire world and this book came off as winy. he tried to over explain everything that had happened to him and prove why he made all the right decisions. second, I do think the memoir captured his voice well, but you could tell it was ghost written (*cough cough* admitting you found the opening quote on brainyquotes.com). third, too much war. it really dragged on in the middle section. finally, I really just don’t know what his endgame was. like can’t imagine getting into a fight with my family and then writing a book about them and ever expecting to reconcile. also, just not sure I ever wanted to know this many intimate details about him.

anyway, definitely recommend if you are into the royal family or want some piping hot tea. otherwise skip because you will probably have a hard time getting through all the minutiae.

my other random thoughts:
-here is something so romance novel and yet so unrealistic about having a prince meet his princess through instagram lmao.
-love that he smoked weed and watched inside out after their first date
-love that he is a gin and tonic guy, but other than that he has terrible taste in alcohol
-first chapter was devastating!! my mom might be here if she didn’t married my dad even if I wouldn’t be

Suppppper long listen. I knew the bulk of these stories so it felt very repetitive to me. Learning new bits like about his adventures, Club H and more of his personal relationships was interesting. But for me the best part was listening to him him narrate it. At the end I felt glad it was over but that is never a way you want a book to end. I guess I just have followed his and Meghan's life too much and watched the interviews and listened to podcasts so I didn't gain a new perspective of him. If anything his views on Prince William were shocking.

I was pleasantly surprised by Harry's charisma as a narrator (I listened to the audiobook). Whilst it obviously tells a specific side of the story, it's an important read when it comes to understanding the royal family and the UK tabloid media and he has a very interesting story to tell, although I could have done with less military tales... Ultimately, I left the book with the sense that Harry doesn't quite know who he is or what he wants to say, unsurprising given his story, but made for a not always consistent author.
