I had a hard time getting through this book. When I read crime novels, I like the strange ones. The ones about serial killers or kids with special crime-solving talents and Sadie just wasn't like that. It was a little too real to life; there's only suffering and pain and no perfect resolution where everyone is happy and whole. It's not even too much of a mystery, you know who the killer is a few chapters into the book. I'm glad I read it, but this is not my go-to book recommendation for friends who want to get into reading.

incredibly textured story, absolutely heart breaking. i plowed through it so fast because i ~needed~ to know what happened, but it wasn't an easy read. suuuuuper heavy, dark, and disturbing.

Warning there are triggers but it is a book that does not draw on violence but it does count on the maturity and imagination of the reader.

Haunting. Listening to this on audiobook really intensified everything. Hard to listen to, but I really appreciated the open-ended finish.

I wish I had a content warning before I started this book because it had some very sensitive content. Very well written and I enjoyed how the author ended it with Sadie.

that was a ride. and what a ride. i'm still so shocked about what i read and i loved how it was done. i also love the fact that we, as readers, don't have all the answers even at the end of the story : it feels real. i very loved this story, it really hit hard and was nicely executed.

(i'm still hesitating about giving it 5 stars, i'll see if it sticks with me)
