I really am bemused about why these books don't get more love. They are a damn good read. The characters have depth to them and flaws that make them interesting and relatable. Vivia sometimes hopes people are better than they are, but has an understanding of why they really aren't. It reminds me in places of the Felix Castor books by Mike Carey. I would urge anyone to give this series a go.
