I bought this on a whim because I love action fantasies. While it is fun for anyone who loves silliness and Dungeons & Dragons, this may be a book for you. It didn't quite hit the right notes for me.

I see what the author was going for with the characters: Two people who are polar opposites and forced to work together. But to be honest, they were only together for around half the book. I liked the banter well enough, though sometimes it did get to be a little much.

Try as I might, I couldn't connect with the characters. Whitney was a bit obnoxious at times and Torsten was a bit too high-and-mighty, especially near the end. Some of the side characters were compelling and I enjoyed the surprises they brought, but it was hard for me to be engaged with the two were most important.

The action was frequent and fun, with one particular heist in a manor being my favourite. The world and creatures were well built and it is clear the author had fun writing this story. If you're looking for an exciting, action fantasy with quirky characters and charm, this might be for you more than it was for me.

This review is for the audiobook version of Web of Eyes as narrated by Luke Daniels and, to be honest, I'm not sure if the reasons I rated this book as high as I did was because of anything especially great about the title or if it was just on Luke Daniels' strengths as a narrator.

Daniels isn't for everyone but as a huge fan of his narrations of Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series and Scott Meyer's Magic 2.0 series, Web of Eyes was another strong showing for the reader. He brings a certain joie de vivre to his work that is infectious.

On its own merits, Web of Eyes is a fun romp through a fantasy world rife with its fair share of epic fantasy tropes. However, what set it apart for me was the buddy cop vibe I felt between "the world's greatest" thief, Whitney Fierstown and the too-serious-for-his-own-good knight, Torsten Unger.

If any of that sounds even remotely interesting to you, then you won't be disappointed.

For an audible daily deal, and my first time reading the authors, this was not too bad. I think most of that is because of how amazing the narration was. Because otherwise it was a pretty bland fantasy story. I am looking forward to seeing where the story goes and how it all gets incorporated, but it isn't on the top of my priority list to read and continue.

Whitney and Torsten are our main characters that couldn't be any more opposite. Whitney is dramatic and theatrically memorable. Torsten made me have issues with the novel. Torsten is portrayed as stubborn, condemning, and pigheaded. This was a great opening for a series with adventure.

Most days I wanted to read it, but some days, I did not. The characters are over-the-top simple one dimensional exaggerations of a single personality type. The plot was OK.
