The Girl on the Platform focuses on Bridget who witnesses a young girl being kidnapped, and follows the aftermath of this crime.

SpoilerNo one reports the young girl missing, and CCTV appears to show Bridget sleeping at the time of the supposed kidnapping, so police don’t believe believe her. However Bridget can’t let it go. Convinced she is the only one looking for the little girl, she continues to investigate on her own.

This was a really gripping story, and was extremely well written. Overall, I enjoyed this book however, hints are dropped early and often so I guessed where the story was going from very early on. This is the only reason I am rating it 3 stars. I imagine if I hadn’t figured it out so early, I would’ve enjoyed it much more so I still highly recommend it to other lovers of this genre!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy in exchange for my honest review.

The Girl on the Platform is an engaging  but slow-burn psychological thriller.

Mathematician and new mom Bridget who is suffering from postnatal depression, witnesses a child being kidnapped from a railway platform while on the train back home from work. Horrified, she alerts the police, but since she was the only one who saw the crime, no-one believes her and soon the whole incident is brushed away as a hallucination - a result of her medications. Taking matters into her own hands, Bridget begins to look into the incident, but things take a sinister turn endangering her family.

I struggled with this book at first because the blurb and reviews had promised a dark and absorbing thriller but all that I was reading was the self-loathing and crazy obsession of a sleep-deprived and depressed working mother. It wasn't until after 60% of the book that the plot picked up pace, things started to fall in place and everything until then began to make sense.

While I wasn't a fan initially, the latter half of the book totally redeemed any misgivings I may have had. The brilliant manner in which the climax unfolds is absolutely mind-blowing.

Overall, I found this to be a compelling read with a shocking end.

A big thank you to Avon books and Netgalley for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a great thriller!

New mum Bridget has gone back to work with husband Tom staying at home with their daughter Grace. On Bridget's commute home from work, she sees a child being taken from a platform that her train passes.

She reports it to the police but no one else on the train saw it happen. No children have been reported missing either. No one, not even the police, believe her. Bridget then takes it upon herself to find this missing girl but she ends up getting more than she bargained for.

This novel is written very well and Bridget's post-natal depression is a very accurate depiction. You can really sympathise with not only her, but her husband Tom too. He seems like the nicest and most tolerant man!

Bridget becomes a bit obsessed with looking into child abductions and the statistics and you can feel the frustration from her husband for putting it before her family but also from Bridget for not being listened to.

I had sort of guessed what the outcome was whilst reading but I felt like I had to keep reading on to see how it all panned out. It is full of twists and I love that it gives the reader information and clues for us to pick up on.

Thank you @netgalley for my advanced readers copy. The synopsis grabbed and sounded like a good psychological thriller.
.
.
I will say that I figured how who the girl of the platform was about 35% in. Kinda disappointed in that. However, I didn’t know why so I kept reading.
.
.
The story jumped from past to present. Telling of the girl on the platform when she was kidnapped. It was definitely eerie listening to where she was being kept and how she was treated. It was heartbreaks unsettling.
.
.
The main character Bridget is obsessed with finding the missing girl that she saw. She’s the only one who saw her taken. Her life revolves around the kidnapping and she soon makes connections to other kidnappings.
.
.
The ending confirmed who the girl on the platform what I thought. The reason as to why was shocker for sure. It definitely came very fast in the final chapters. I definitely was shocked

The Girl on the Platform follows new mom Bridget after she sees a kidnapping on her train ride home from work. Bridget struggles when no on believes she saw what she did and it leads her to find the truth even if it costs her everything.
The beginning of the book is slow and it gradually builds until the end. Overall it’s a good, enjoyable read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an audio arc of this book, all opinions expressed here are my own.

The Girl on the Platform by Bryony Pearce is the first book I have read by this author.

Bridget is an exhausted new Mum working full time and battling mental health issues. Bridget sees a young girl being kidnapped from a train station or did she? Bridget is the only one who saw this happen, despite how full the train is.

This was a dark and twisty read with an unreliable narrator as the main character, a slightly predictable plot, and an incredibly gripping story.

I don’t want to say much that could potential spoil the book, but this was a fascinating three star read. The Girl on the Platform by Bryony Pearce is available on the 15th of April.

The Girl on the Platform demonstrates one of the biggest fear of every parent that has ever existed, kidnapping. The story itself is attention-grabbing and the suspense is mesmerizing. Not only was this story entertaining, but it also does a great job at establishing the reality of the life of a mother with depression. The author use's a lot of her own personal experience with depression in the story and it had's rawness and humanity, in a situation dealing with a kidnapping. This was a wonderful ride.

Thank you, NetGalley, Avon Books UK, and Bryony Pearce for this arc.

For suspense-crime-thriller fans of Gillian Flynn and Paula Hawkins.

When Bridget catches a late train home, she winesses a child being kidnapped. No one else witnesses the crime, and when reported, the police don't believe her.

Night after night Bridget dreams of the little girl. Bridget soon takes matters into her own hands and digs up information that shows there's a child kidnapping ring.

But who's to believe a new mother who is sleep deprived on antidepressants that hallucinations as a side effect?

Slow to start off and predictable ending once Bridget starts researching, but has a great twist of a twist of a twist before you reach the end. This was an easy read that kept me turning the pages, though it was definitely a rollercoaster ride when it comes to Alison.
