This novella was a pretty good read. The struggles of war and how it affects those that return home. It was refreshing to see a female lead go through those struggles instead of your usual male lead.

Coming Home by Jessica Scott – A Homefront Novella is a 2014 publication.

This holiday themed novella is centered around Samantha, Iraq war veteran, who returned home from her deployment feeling shell shocked. She feels disconnected from her daughter, Natalie, and can't feel anything for her lover, Patrick, a man who has been the only father her daughter has ever known.

So, she returns home to Maine, where her family lives for the holidays and maybe for good. But, when Natalie calls Patrick begging him to come to Maine because something is wrong with her mom, who cries all the time, he can't refuse. He's ready to fight for the woman he loves and for the little girl he thinks of as his own daughter.

This emotional read highlights the incredible difficulty soldiers have readjusting to civilian life and to the great loss and tragedies they see and endure during war. Patrick was the perfect partner for Sam because he could relate to what she was going through. He was strong, patient, and determined, even though he was scared to death of losing Sam and Natalie.

I can't say I related to Sam because I have never been in that type of situation, but I could empathize with her plight. It made perfect sense to me that she would feel numb and have problems reconnecting with life after all the had been through. So, with the help of Patrick she is on the right path for recovery and I think she made some good solid choices here and she learns that he does have still have the capacity to feel. Her road will be a rocky one, but she has the best support team ever! 4 stars

All of the books of the "Coming Home" series are written with so much emotion. The struggle for these men and women soldiers is so very real. This is the story of Patrick and Samantha and it is very powerful. It deals with the aftermath of deployment and how these soldiers deal with war and loss. Jessica Scott writes AMAZING military romance! This novella is a must read. The phone call between Patrick and his daughter, Natalie, was very emotional and will stay with me for quite a while. I can't wait to read more from this very talented author.

Received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

A heartbreaking story about the damage war does to the soul and how it affects those who come home and those who have been left behind. I really enjoyed this novella which is the start of the Homefront series. Major Patrick MacLean is a wonderful, caring, loving and patient man. He's devastated when the love of his life, Samantha Egan, leaves him shortly after returning from Iraq. This is the story of what happens next. It is set at Christmas time. A lovely story with a perfect ending.

Jessica Scott likes to rip my heart out with her stories, and I totally love her for it. I know when I pick up one of her books, I'm going to feel all the emotions and it is worth every single minute.

I really enjoyed reading Ben and Olivia's story. They both want what is best for the men and women they work with, yet don't always agree with how it should be done. Add in the sexual attraction between them, and readers are given another wonderful fun and sexy story.

Ben struggles with being a commander through much of this story. He has never wanted to be a commander and really doesn't feel like he has earned the right. He will do anything to protect those under his command, even it if means stepping outside the lines.

Olivia is a by-the-book girl thanks to her past. She has never been one to step outside the lines until she meets Ben. She still kept Ben from completely breaking the rules, but did bend them like never before. Olivia and Ben were really different from one another, but their differences seemed to make them work as a couple for me.

Ben Teague has never wanted to command soldiers, but he finds himself given the task. At times he hasn’t even been sure he wanted to be a soldier any more. This isn’t going to be an easy command either; Ben is one of the commanders tasked with cleaning up the mess their predecessors left behind, a battalion that is battling corruption. To do this he must work with Olivia Hale, the by the book lawyer. Sure some of these soldiers have no hope, but some have Ben.

I have never seen two characters that just should be together but can't get out of their heads enough to realize it. It took a while for me to start this book. Normally when a Jessica Scott book is on my Kindle I rush to devour it, but with this one I took my time. I knew it was going to be the last in this series for a number of months; I wanted to savor it. And savor it I did.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley for my honest review and I have it preordered to arrive on my Kindle on release day!
