2020:
i enjoyed this! i have a tricky time rating atwood's poetry because i always find that there are poems of hers i adore and poems of hers that are just meh. my favourites from this book were "a meal", "man with a hook", and "letters, towards and away." i love the rawness of her work and i really can't believe this was published in 1966
2023: so silly to be reading my original review of this considering it’s now my emotional support collection… margaret i love u i’m so sorry to have slandered ur work

Variabel denne. Noen dikt er absolutt nydelige. Andre, nokså ubegripelige. En samling som kan og bør leses flere ganger.

I'm a big fan of Atwood's, especially her speculative fiction novels, but I wanted to read some of her early work, and of course she never disappoints!

This collection of poetry is a slow pace written work with Deep understanding and author used symbolism throughout poetry and one can enjoy. i can only describe as overly detached/observational work if you want solace and peace, read with this when alone or before sleep to grasp the understanding of the poetry.
I really enjoyed the title poem. There were also several that were about travelling west by train, across the prairies into the mountains. I think then there’s one set perhaps in a Stanley Park in Vancouver, amongst the totem poles.I don't expect everyone to like traditional poetry like I do, and I am also quite picky which is probably why I'm not super satisfied with this. Her poetry has substance to it, while most modern poetry these days seems to be lacking this aspect.

The amazing and beautiful thing about Margaret Atwood's poetry, to me, is how much it blows me away. I normally don't read much poetry at all. I enjoy some, from time to time, but I tend to read a poem or a two at a time, based on recommendation or assignment, and leave it at that. But with Atwood, I can read an entire collection and feel shivers up my spine.
There were too many wonderful stanzas to count, here, and so many brilliant pieces. So instead I'll just end the review with this:
