A delightful book with anecdotes and tales adapted by Ajahn Brahm. His signature humor is seen everywhere and one feels motivated to face whatever comes our way in life. Also includes a happiness certificate by Ajahn Brahm.

This is the first religion book I've ever read (other than my own religion's holy book). Though it's not all about Buddhism, the moral lessons in here are all rooted in Buddhism values. I'm not a really religious person, but the idea of reading books about other religions has always fascinated me. Sure, there is only one God, but humans make different interpretations.

The author puts Buddhism values into different sets of short stories. I can see that from my own experience, reading other religion's books doesn't make you change your own belief. As I said earlier, humans make different interpretations about God, and therefore the sacred value of religions are prone to be similar to each other. If we all have one same direction, it doesn't matter which way we take. We'll eventually meet at the end of the road.

This book teaches a lot about values that we tend to ignore in our own religion. Why? Because we're always spoon-fed about our religion since we were kids and we're not used to question about it. Reading the same values from different perspective can enhance our own understanding about God. This book is a good starter into your journey of rediscovery.

This book is very funny and there are so many true things in it. I really feel like I have a new look on the world.

Virtue, peace and compassion are beautiful things to live your life by.

Plus it's okay to be grumpy and it's okay to be happy. Don't you want to be whatever you want to be and not what others want you to be?

The Dharma talks by Ajahn Brahms are a cool mix of insight, humor and wit. He always tries to tell the message by using stories to make the listeners look at the moon, not the finger
1. The dog poop story: suffering comes in many forms: heartbreaks, work issues, death etc. We got to take them with least resistance. When we accept them, take them home to our gardens, after awhile they act as fertilizers. We get to eat tasty, plump apples. It does mature and help us grown as individuals
2. The 70% rule: expect less. Don't aim for perfection, as you will expect and fall into the habit of fault finding. Don't go for low percent as it will discourage you. Keep a middle score, so that you can appreciate yourselves and others too with their differences
3. Person are more than their labels: terming people like criminals, mad etc can make us fail to see their other side's. For eg, if a teacher sees kid as a underperformer, he will never see the other side like the kid interest in music. By constant reprimand, he will indeed make the kid fall in depression and fulfill the prophecy.
4. Keeping the mantle piece free; the mantle piece of our minds are generally filled with so many desires, anxieties etc. We don't try to let go of some of the clutter there.
5. What do we really want: like the thief in the story was actually after inner peace and kindness but wasted his energy on getting money. We need to think about priorities for ourselves, not the ones dictated and given to us by the culture.

Kako mi ovo nije prvo iskustvo s knjigom budističkih priča (u nekim slučajevima i basnama), više-manje sam uživala.
