This was absolutely weird and incisive and delightful. A multiverse in the liminal space of an IKEA clone, and the unfortunate retail workers who are forced to navigate it. The juxtaposition of the routine and mundane with the surreal and bizarre is always one of my favourite things.

Ava and Jules are still hurting over their recent breakup when they are sent on an adventure that is beyond anything they ever imagined. They are bored, disillusioned employees at a barely-disguised version of IKEA when a black hole into the multiverse opens from the Nihilist Bachelor showroom.
I know. whaaat?
This novella is a complete surprise. For some reason I was expecting a noir mystery. Instead it is sort of like a dark anti-capitalist Dr. Who episode that morphs into a deeply felt breakup story. Nothing is tied up with a bow at the end, but Ava has moved into a space of tender acceptance and openness to the future. Good read.
