Homebound is Humairah Jamil's wistful ode to the Holy Land, and the lessons that come with her minor pilgrimage experience. It is ethereal at times, heartfelt at others, but it is essentially a collection of poetry that is packed with emotion. The poems are mainly written in free verse - lending a sense of authenticity that shows the honesty and vulnerability of a believer. Isn't that what we are all doing? We struggle and suffer, but His words in the Quran constantly reassure us. Humairah also touches on her own experiences, and her words would definitely tug at the reader's heartstrings. There is a sense of novelty while we learn more about her, along with a sense of familiarity as she beautifully captures the different emotions that everyone will face. This is definitely a collection of poems and verses you would not want to miss.

Some of the poems is just very relatable. I really found myself reflecting a lot while reading this book and made me want to slow down in life. To appreciate the little things in life. "So have tawakkul(trust) in Allah's wisdom for the events that unfold in your lives and accept His decree."

it was intriguing that we can get hurt by someone then bounced back up when you don’t want it to control you with the help of Allah. Throughout the chapters in this book that is how the author describes it, to be able to navigate back to being in peace from the pain that you’ve been through. Overall I love the way she wrote these poetry that speaks to you ,would recommend to read and hopefully there will be a second book.
