I'm dead. It's almost six in the morning here. I'm gonna sleep and reflect on my life choices.
-----------

4.5 stars.

I'm gonna be brief because I really liked this book. To the point where it got me crying very hard for the last 50 pages. But I have some issues; they may not be fair issues, but they're mine. Spoiler-free for the most part, just general impressions.

1. The amount of sex or mentions of sex in the book. Now, I read romantica and erotica. I love my sex scenes, but to be honest, they felt unnecessary in this book. Yes, we get that Rhys and Feyre love each other very much, yes I get that Rhys is a sex machine and whatnot. But it got to the point where I literally rolled my eyes at the book because of the sex. I am quite surprised that they let Maas put those scenes in this book, being the US a little bit on the prude side when it comes to sex and young adult literature. I'm happy because of that, I just think it could have been managed better.

2. While I generally liked how the book was written, sometimes it read too much like a fanfic, which is not bad per se, but you know. The use of sentences ending in "..." to create tension became a little tiring. Also, at some points the Archeron sisters read a bit like Mary Sues. I didn't like Feryre that much in the first book, nor her sisters and I admit that they actually have a good arch but sometimes I was like "WOULD YOU JUST SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO EACH OTHER FOR ONCE".

3. Some things were predictable. Specially at the end of the book. The moment Lucien went looking for the Swan Princess, I mean, Vassa, I knew he was going to
SpoilerGandalf the shit out of the last battle. Come on, we've all read/seen LOTR
.

4. I am quite convinced that Maas is a fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter Series because the amount of similarities between both series, specially when it comes to how the characters are constructed, is a bit unnerving. To be honest, I first thought that the sisters' surname was Acheron instead of Archeron. Ahem. Also, the dynamic between Amarantha and Rhys is very similar to Artemisa and Ash (except that Amarantha makes Artemisa seem nice); Eris and Lucien could perfectly be Urian dealing with his shitty father. I'm probably reading into it too much, but I could not not see the similarities.

I don't have anything really bad to say about this book. Just that those things above got on my nerves at some point and they're the reason I'm not giving the book 5 full stars. Of course, I would totally recommend this series. The first one is the weakest one, but if you can get past that one, you're gonna have the time of your life.
