I don't read a lot of horror but enjoyed most of the short stories in this collection.

Mildly unsettling to deeply disturbing, some interesting themes, and centered around female and queer characters.

The short interludes between chapters were interesting too.

I resonated with many of the stories, I didn't understand some, I'd love to talk about many of them just to see how other people read them. But I enjoyed (I'm not sure if that's the correct word for disturbing stories that are kind of true if you take away the horror) all of them.

It's a book I'll probably return to at some point.

I enjoyed most of the short stories in this book quite a lot.

It is filled with very tense short stories who perfectly fit into the horror genre. Some are very uncomfortable to read, and I'd say check some reviews and trigger warnings before reading. But I think horror readers will quite enjoy this collection of short stories.

I especially enjoyed the folklore and mythical aspects in a lot of the stories.

These stories were a lot more accessible than I was expecting, and I was drawn into pretty much each one relatively quickly. I was a fan of the writing for sure!

However, one too many times a story ended and I thought to myself: "Wait, is that it? What was I meant to take away from that story? Hmm, I didn't quite get it. I wanted a little bit more! Just a tad!"

I really enjoyed the interludes between the story. A short horror tale in its own right!

Things We Say in the Dark came of as rather contrived ( strange for the sake of being strange but not in a good way). Nothing was particularly engrossing and the stories became repetitive/ indistinguishable. By the 25% point I was losing interest and found it difficult to finish, which for a book of short stories under 200 pages is a surprise. Also, a good 90% of these stories centered around pregnancy and giving birth which I despise, hence another reason for the low rating.

However, it wasn't all bad, there were a few parts I did actually like namely Birds Fell from the and Each One Spoke in Your Voice , I'll Eat You Up I love You So (Fear 1 only) and Sleep Long, Sleep Tight, it is Best to Wake Up Late

I also thought that The World’s More Full of Weeping Than You Can Understand
had an interesting format, the story seems normal until you read the footnotes and the tone and story just changes.

Overall, not my favourite short story collection but not all bad.
